Atlanta Press Club Condemns Arrests of Journalists, Raises Alarm Over Press Freedom
At the Atlanta Press Club, our mission is in part to advance the public’s interest in and understanding of a free press. The recent arrest of Trahern Jeen Crews, Jamael Lydell Lundy and journalists Georgia Fort, Don Lemon comes at a time of heightened national concern about free speech and press protections.
The Atlanta Press Club condemns actions that limit or intimidate journalists and undermine the public’s right to know.
While every incident deserves careful review, the detention of members of the media while engaged in news gathering raises serious questions and risks creating a chilling effect on journalism nationwide.
