Atlantans: I’m looking for some part-time help this summer from anyone who’s looking to break into journalism or is an early-career freelance journalist.
The work would be a combination of some routine things (data entry, transcribing) as well as some exciting stuff (looking through piles of records! or in some cases obtaining them!). I’ll pay ~$13/hour (a total of $2,000 over 8-12 weeks). The best thing I can offer, beyond cash, is some mentorship. I’ll carve out 5 hours of my week helping you. Got pitches you’re trying to sell? Let’s build them together. Need an editor to shape your work? I’ll help.
I’d like to work with someone who has experience with those tasks, or the desire to develop these skills. J-school experience is not required, but a desire to become a better journalist (ideally who sees themselves being a freelancer) is a must. If you’re interested, please send me a note about your career goals, some of your best writing samples, and a resume. (I’m at firstname.lastname@example.org.) If you know someone who might be, please pass this along. Deadline is May 6. Thank you!
