President

The Atlanta Press Club (APC), a 501c3, is looking for a new president. This is a full-time position managing a staff of two people and a budget of $325,000. The role reports directly to the Club’s working board of directors.

APC was established in 1964 and is the second largest press club in the country, just behind the National Press Club in Washington, DC. APC hosts 30-40 events throughout the year, including its Newsmaker Luncheon series, Hall of Fame dinner, Awards of Excellence recognition ceremony, workshops for journalists and networking events. The Club also hosts statewide debates each election year through its Loudermilk-Young Debate Series restricted endowment.

The president oversees the administration, programs and strategic direction of the organization. Responsibilities include managing day-to-day activities, overseeing member programs, maintaining relationships with current sponsors, cultivating new partnerships, planning and managing the Club’s finances, acting as community liaison for APC, recruiting new members and board members, hiring and maintaining competent staff and overseeing the marketing and promotion of the organization. As the leader of a small-staff organization, the APC president is a self-starter, confident problem solver and strong collaborator.

The ideal candidate will have experience:
• Working in a nonprofit or member-based organization
• Engaging with a board of directors and other volunteers
• Cultivating and securing donors/sponsors
• Managing staff
• Preparing and overseeing budgets (knowledge of QuickBooks software a plus)
• Planning and executing events
• Understanding journalism and the media industry

The mission of the Atlanta Press Club is to serve the evolving professional, educational and social needs of our media community, foster journalistic excellence and advance the public’s interest in and understanding of a free press.

APC has more than 500 members. Most are working journalists who represent all types of media, such as print, digital, broadcast, radio and freelance. The rest of the membership are students studying journalism, journalism teachers, authors, communication professionals and nonprofit executives.

APC offers a competitive salary that includes health insurance. Relocation costs are not included.
