Freelance editor
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is seeking an experienced freelance editor to assist in the production of high-quality features content.
Qualifications: Minimum 5 years professional editing experience, with demonstrated ability to turn a good story into a highly polished story through sharp line editing and developmental editing. The ideal candidate will be proficient in AP style, and skilled in grammar, spelling and story structuring. Previous experience editing lifestyle content is preferred but not required.
The candidate should be detail-oriented and deadline-driven, including with stories that may require rapid response or quick turnaround. The candidate must also have strong communication skills and an ability to work well with writers and newsroom editors in a remote setting.
Responsibilities: Line edit short- and long-form Living stories with an eye toward everything from facts to grammar and formatting. Work directly with writers to ensure accurate, error-free, reader-friendly copy. Formulate headlines, subheads, captions. Work closely with newsroom editors to ensure smooth workflow. Identify additional story elements that make for compelling digital and print presentation. Write weekly calendar of arts and entertainment events
Position is guaranteed 10 hours per week and will periodically increase to a maximum 40 hours a week. Position is remote and does not require residency in Atlanta.
