Director of Development and Communications
VOX ATL’s Director of Development and Communications is a person with a passion for youth development and the ability to work with teens leaders. This person must work well in an intergenerational environment and understand and promote VOX ATL’s mission. This person will be responsible for the development and implementation of the organization’s resource development strategy and communications strategy. The person in this role will work with the Executive Director, Board, Teens, Staff, and Volunteers
Role Overview
The Director of Development and Communications will serve as a frontline fundraiser for sustaining existing funding partnerships and mining new revenue opportunities primarily from institutional funders (private and public). They will be responsible for the entire life cycle of the fundraising process from identification to prospect research to grant writing and grant management. The person in this position will also be responsible for creating an individual giving pipeline, as well as a process for corporate partnerships and sponsorships. In addition to fundraising tasks, this role will have responsibility for managing external communications with all of VOX ATL stakeholders. This will include; campaign direction, marketing & visual identity, and communications support of VOX ATL programming
Responsibilities will include
Fund Development
Portfolio Management and Planning
- Collaborate with VOX ATL leadership to develop and maintain VOX ATL’s fundraising portfolio
- Work in partnership with VOX ATL staff to maximizes opportunities and meets revenue goals
- Standardize and streamline portfolio management process, and fundraising operating procedure
- Engage youth leaders & infuse youth voice as application in VOX ATL’s development activities
Cultivation and Stewardship
- Maintain strong relationships and regular communication with all funders in VOX ATL’s portfolio while adding new potential funders through outreach and cultivation activities
- Manage all communication with funders ranging from regular updates and special projects
- Ensure CRM data integrity, be vigilant about record keeping, and standardize the type of information that is being entered
- Solicit in-kind donations for programs and events
Prospect Research & Analysis
- Identify and qualify new prospects to grow and maintain a pipeline of continued support
- Regularly conduct in-depth analysis of existing, and lapsed donors in existing portfolio
- Conduct in-depth research on prospects, track donor information including institutional characteristics, giving capacities, key staff and our connections to them (e.g. relationship mapping), and recent news
- Pursue knowledge of trends in local philanthropy and community-centric fundraising
Program Support, Evaluation, and Reporting
- Ensure grant compliance and 100% on-time grant report submissions
- Collaborate with Program Manager on all program evaluation-related data management
- Support major program events, including new member trainings and community dialogues
- Collaborate with Program Manager and appropriate vendors to produce VOX annual impact report
Communications
Campaign Direction
- Develop dynamic campaign strategies using both proven and experimental online and offline tactics to shift public perception, drive action and increase engagement
- Oversee staff, contractors, and partners to drive campaign activations that build interest for constituency and stakeholders
- Evaluate and report out about the impact of our campaigns and various interventions
Marketing & Visual Identity
- Design and deploy marketing and audience engagement strategies to raise the profile and visibility of VOX ATL
- Work with staff, consultants, and contractors to furnish an organizational style guide and provide guidance for message consistency across the organization
- Help to develop organization’s engagement strategy that includes influencers, spokespersons and brand ambassadors
- Manage content strategy and work with staff and vendors to produce materials that are in accordance with branding style guide
- Design materials that support the organization’s mission and operations such as recruitment, development, and stakeholder engagement
- Train, support, and guide program team members to maximize marketing efforts that amplify each program’s brand identity
- Partner with like-minded organizations to promote audience growth
Social Media Strategy and Content Development
- Maintain timely and integrated messaging to social media audiences and online community members/subscribers based on digital communications content calendar
- Ensure all online content is consistent with the organization’s mission and editorial voice;
- Regularly evaluate and report metrics to improve social media direction & strategy
- Advise on strategies for expanding and improving SEO, social media, and digital communications influence
Qualifications / Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree required; minimum five years fundraising experience
- Previous experience in fundraising, grant writing, special events, communications or nonprofit work (staff or volunteer)
- Excellent communications skills – verbal and written (must be able to effectively communicate VOX’s mission, impact, and case for support) as well as strong research skills, superior time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines
- Must work well individually and with a team. Must be able to work in a creative and collaborative environment
- Must be comfortable working with a diverse group of teenagers and adults
- Ability to think strategically and flexibly to tailor proposals for specific purposes
- Computer skills must include experience with Adobe Creative Suite, online publishing, and related activities are a plus
Additional Background & Experience
- This position is ideal for someone with a long-term interest in nonprofit fundraising and the desire to grow with an organization. At VOX ATL, you will be a part of a reputable organization, make a real impact and take on increasing levels of responsibility
- Interest in and knowledge about fundraising, the metro-Atlanta’s community, best practices in development and Board stewardship will be critical in this job
- Previous experience securing major gifts is a plus
Schedule and Compensation
- Schedule: Full-time, hybrid schedule can be flexible. Includes monthly evening board meetings, periodic evening and/or Saturday committee and donor meetings, and program activities
- Salary: $70,000- $75,000 depending on experience
- Benefits: 70% medical covered by employer or FSA matching, dental and vision insurance, with 75% covered by employer, access to 401K, professional development, parking pass or MARTA pass, flexible paid time off + office closures
- Upon successful completion of a 90-day probationary period, access to 3% 401K matching contributions
