Digital Managing Editor

Meredith Atlanta is looking for a passionate leader who has demonstrated an ability to influence staff toward a “digital-first” newsroom. The Digital Managing Editor (DME) will oversee Meredith Atlanta’s digital strategy and execution on all digital platforms (web, app, ott, etc.) and will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the digital news operation.

The DME must be able to critically evaluate newsroom processes, structure and workflow to achieve efficiency without sacrificing quality. The DME will formally oversee a small, dedicated digital staff, yet be expected to lead throughout the building by accomplishment, collaboration, passion and knowledge.

The DME reports to the Director of Digital Media and works closely with colleagues in Digital, News, Marketing and Sales to ensure that Meredith Atlanta is 1) advancing its newsgathering mission across multiple platforms, 2) embracing innovative ways to cover and present news and information via digital platforms, 3) growing its audience, and 4) increasing revenue.  The DME will stay current with trends, metrics, and competitors.

The DME will also be responsible for implementing effective strategies that connect Meredith Atlanta’s core platform – CBS46 – with its digital platforms through platform management, search engine optimization, and content discovery initiatives.

Previous success growing website, mobile and social media views/visits/engagement is essential, and experience improving performance from metrics is a must. The successful candidate must be familiar with TV newsroom operations, search engine optimization, basic HTML coding and content management systems.

Essential Job Functions | Accountabilities, Actions and Expected Measurable Results

20% Must have strong digital platform knowledge and the drive to get things done. Recognize opportunities for synergy.  Integrate and simplify complex processes and automate when possible.

20% Understand and use metrics into actionable insights to maximize growth on all platforms.

20% Plan and execute around-the-clock news coverage and related features on a leading local website, multiple mobile applications, and emerging digital media platform.

20% Lead collaboration and training across multiple teams including reporters, producers, photographers, marketers, technologists, etc. Will also be responsible for making sure newsroom staff members meet digital goals.

20% Manage and develop a team of digital content producers, helping them grow as digital journalists and challenging them too

Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

Education: A college degree in related field preferred.

Experience:

Past experience of working in a TV newsroom preferred.

Past digital publishing experience preferred.

5-7 years professional experience preferred.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong editorial judgment.

Strong news writing skills and understanding of current events.

Strong experience with: Content Management Systems, search engine optimization, Photoshop, basic HTML, and video editing software.

Travel Requirements: Less than 5%
