Duane Stanford

Executive Editor, Beverage Digest

Duane Stanford is Executive Editor of Beverage Digest, a business newsletter covering the non-alcoholic drinks industry. Before taking over the publication in 2015, he spent 23 years at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Bloomberg writing breaking news, investigations, features, magazine enterprise and columns.

While at Bloomberg’s Atlanta bureau, Duane was a regular contributor to Businessweek magazine and to Bloomberg television and radio. He also appeared on regional and business programs including NPR’s Marketplace. Before leaving Bloomberg, he moonlighted on the political beat to cover the Georgia senatorial campaign of Michelle Nunn and the presidential campaign of GOP hopeful Mike Huckabee. It wasn’t a crazy departure.

Most of Duane’s time at the AJC was spent covering local, state and federal government, as well as politics (his oddest assignment was a year covering Newt Gingrich’s divorce). He moved to the AJC’s business desk in 2006 to cover Coca-Cola and the beverage industry.

Duane’s career in news included its share of hurricanes, tornados and floods — he once rode out a Hurricane from inside a Louisiana fire station.

Duane graduated from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, where he met his wife of more than two decades. They have a daughter in high school and a son in college. Duane is a serial PTA president and volunteer, holds a now rarely-used pilot’s license, and enjoys competitive tennis.
