Chief Editor – SREB

SREB’s chief editor is responsible for ensuring that SREB print and electronic communications are clearly written and accurately edited. The chief editor also creates content about SREB programs for print, web, news media and social media.

SREB’s chief editor is responsible for ensuring that SREB print and electronic communications are clearly written and accurately edited. The chief editor also creates content about SREB programs for print, web, news media and social media. The position reports to the director of communications and works closely with staff throughout the organization. The chief editor:

Ensures that SREB materials comply with established editorial style, copyright and graphic standards
Edits or secures editing services for external communications from SREB
Directs and updates SREB’s editorial style guide. Acts as senior adviser to all SREB editors and arbiter of decisions about SREB editorial style
Works with multiple staff authors to revise drafts and finalize manuscripts for publication, including copyediting and proofreading for consistency, grammar and punctuation
Leads initiatives throughout SREB to improve the quality of SREB’s editorial products
Serves as primary liaison with SREB’s senior designer and production manager to coordinate design, revisions and print proofs
Backs up other communications team members for media relations, strategic communications consulting and web management.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

Four-year degree in journalism, communications or English
At least five years of writing and editing experience in a professional setting
Demonstrated ability to write and edit fluently and effectively, with strong attention to detail and command of English grammar
Excellent organization and time-management skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
Demonstrated ability to manage portfolio of multiple projects
Preferred

Advanced degree in journalism, communications, English, education or public policy
Experience working in education, nonprofit or policy organizations
Familiarity with AP style
Understanding of basic principles of graphic design and digital communication
The ideal candidate has:

Familiarity with online content management systems
Proven ability to work with multiple academic authors
A background in or desire to learn about education policy

Digital News Producer Trainee | Part-Time Temp – CBS46

The Digital News Producer Trainee learns and applies essential facets of digital platform production, writing, showcasing of stories, story selection across the .com, mobile and social media platforms. Training in the previously mention activities is provided for a short duration. The Digital News Producer Trainee begins with tasks that include newscast prompter operation and advances into digital news writing responsibilities. Within two to three months, or as opportunities arise, the Producer Trainee typically produces content for CBS46’s digital platforms.

Essential Job Functions:
30% Under the direction of authorized staff member, write and edit content for digital platforms – including slideshows
25% Rewrite press releases using AP style and proper formatting for the web for approval by authorized digital staff member
20% Under the direction of authorized staff member, curate for and post to social media
15% Cut video to attach to reporter stories, cut VOSOTs from shows for standalone clips
10% Work within Worldnow to share digital content from WGCL’s sister stations within the Meredith group.

Education:

Photographer – CBS46

I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.
The Photographer/SNG ENG Op is responsible for capturing and editing the moments and visuals for news stories, and is expected to be involved as much as possible in any other aspect of producing those stories. This role will also include the operation of the station’s SNG and ENG trucks.

II. Essential Job Functions | Accountabilities, Actions and Expected Measurable Results
60% Function as staff photographer; shoot and edit and help produce video of daily general
assignments and spot news stories.
15% Utilize existing technology to enhance story coverage.
15% Operate ENG and SNG Vehicles and related broadcast equipment.
10% Maintain related technical equipment in working order.

III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

Education Minimum – High School diploma or GED required. Technical or vocational degree or two years of college preferred.

Experience
Minimum of three years of experience in television news photography preferably in a top 50 market, live ENG microwave truck operations and non-linear editing experience. NPPA Workshop and SNG Operations experience is a plus.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Good working knowledge of digital broadcast systems operations and broadcast system interconnection.
Operation of large vehicles and knowledge of DOT rules and regulations.
Possess good eye-hand coordination.
Have a valid Driver’s License with excellent driving history. Must have good navigational skills.
Able to work well under time constraints of news operation and be a good ambassador for the station at all times.
Ability to work under pressure in a rapidly changing news environment.
Must be able to make decisions quickly and accurately while coping with stress, resulting from a variety of circumstances.

Maintenance Engineer – CBS46

The Maintenance Engineer repairs and maintains all mechanical and electronic equipment within the broadcast facility, as well as remote microwave sites, mobile production, and ENG/SNG vehicles. This position provides IT support and repair for Broadcast IT systems, repairs video production and master control switchers, video and audio routers, videotape recorders, video servers, studio cameras, ENG cameras and camcorders, video monitors, waveform monitors and vector scopes, audio, video and rf amplifiers, microwave transmitters and receivers, intercom and IFB systems, audio production boards, graphics production equipment, computers, and other electronic equipment generally associated with a broadcast television station.

Essential Job Functions
• 50% Performs troubleshooting of hardware and software problems on all Broadcast equipment. Repairs component or board level as appropriate.
• 30% Provides prompt service in support of daily News Department operations and other station departments.
• 15% Performs preventative maintenance as appropriate on station equipment
• 5% Cross-trains other member of the technical staff, and improves/updates technical job skills.

Education
Associate’s degree in Electronics or Computer Science, or equivalent training and/or experience.

Experience
Five years of experience maintaining technical equipment in a television broadcast or post-production facility preferred. Must possess mid-level experience and knowledge of computers, servers, data infrastructure including Ethernet and fiber in support of IP and communications protocols, and computer operating systems (Xp, Windows 7, Windows 10, Server 2008, etc).

Ability to install and configure computer hardware and software, and troubleshoot computer-related problems in support of Broadcast specific technology.

Education:

Job Responsibilities

 Responsible for creation and management of content for TCSG marketing and communications purposes

 Work with Senior Executive Communications Director to create messaging and to re-purpose as needed for all forms of marketing communications, including presentations, marketing material, newsletters, articles and social media

Traffic Coordinator — CBS 46

The Traffic Coordinator may perform the duties of copy or log editing. This position will also assist Program Coordinators as needed.

Essential Job Functions

75% – Processes incoming orders into current week’s logs for assigned stations. Reinstates spots that may subsequently clear after initial preemption. Communicates with Account Executives and Sales Managers about incoming orders. Informs Account Executives of errors on orders and assists with corrections. Verifies spot position and separation; finalizes logs. Transmits logs to appropriate servers. Processes orders related to assigned stations continuously throughout the day.

20% – Fills remaining inventory with assigned promotions set by the creative dept(s) of the stations supported by the Hub. Notifies creative dept(s) to review log before it becomes final.

5% – Maintain inventory control for future weeks

OR

80% – Gathers copy materials and instructions; attaches to appropriate orders with correct dates and days. Maintains contact with agencies for spots and instructions and fax machines for material instructions.

10% – Creates dub and purge lists and maintains material libraries.

10% – Maintains files of all current year copy instructions.
