Jon Shirek

Jon Shirek is a general assignment reporter at WXIA-TV / WATL-TV in Atlanta. From 1974 - 1980 he was a reporter, producer and editor at WTLV-TV in Jacksonville, FL. Shirek earned his undergraduate degree in 1974 from the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications, where he reported for the Independent Florida Alligator, WRUF-AM, and WTLV-TV.

Shirek was born in Fargo, ND. The family moved to Melbourne Beach, FL when he was a teenager. Since beginning to dig his roots deep in Georgia red clay in 1980, he has reported extensively on Georgia government and politics, and local, state and federal courts, and covers a wide range of issues and events, primarily for the stations' 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts.
